Taming the Social Context Jungle: Teaching and Interpreting Social Context
This new workshop from the creator of the evidence-based practice intervention Social Stories™, combines audience participation and a review of supporting research* for the points and practical applications made in this presentation.
Attendees will:
- Raise their own awareness of the scope and complexity of Social Context, and serveral practical instructional strategies to teach it.
- Define Social Context in its six elements
- Identify the limitations of traditional social curriculums
- Describe the impact of social vulnerability (i.e. bullying) and strategies that support social solutions (i.e. friendships).
- Learn strategies to help those in their care use the social internet safely
- Provide case examples of how Social Stories™ and Comic Strip Conversations can be used to systematically teach people in their care to read and interpret social context effectively.
By providing the opportunity to explore and discover components of social context, attendees will be made aware of what they do and how they do it, as these skills are typically utilized by us daily with such speed and ease that they are taken for granted. Practical strategies will be suggested for immediate use for social learning across environments.
