Parent of Newly Diagnosed Child
TEN THINGS TO DO FIRST - #2 Build Your Team
“It takes a village.” Those words ring even more true when you are raising a child with a disability. You will need a team of people to work with you and help you. Finding compatible professionals who can work with you and your child can take time. Trust your instincts and don’t be afraid to change if you need to. A good place to start is our online database of providers. Ask your support group for references, but remember that each person’s experience is their own and yours may differ. While it is important that the professionals you work with have training and experience with autism, it is more important that they understand you, your family and your child’s needs and are willing to work with you as a team to deliver the appropriate services. Ask questions and expect answers. You know your child better than anyone else.
