Autism Orientation Workshop – Recreational Providers

In this one-session overview, recreational providers will learn about:

  • characteristics and behaviors associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • teaching, social and behavioral strategies
  • developing meaningful inclusion programs
  • working with parents
  • parent perspectives on living with autism

This workshop is appropriate for all types of enrichment and recreational community providers, such as the Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts, an art program, music classes, sports (community or school-based), after school programs, Parks and Recreation Departments, YMCA/YWCA or other community centers, or summer camps. Many of our kids and adults with ASD would benefit from participating in community activities and it is important for the community providers to know how to create meaningful opportunities for inclusion. This workshop includes great ideas on creating inclusive environments for campers, sports leagues, clubs and other extra-curricular activities.
